How to Ask About Eco-Conscious Cleaning
Choose a cleaning provider by asking about the specific products and methods they plan to use. A green or natural claim alone does not explain a product's ingredients, fragrance, or suitability for your surfaces. Recognized labels and a practical conversation give you more useful information.
Start with product names, not broad promises
Ask which products would be used in your kitchen, bathrooms, and other priority spaces. A provider should be able to discuss the proposed approach before a visit, including any preferences that would change the scope. Product packaging, manufacturer information, and care instructions are better starting points than an unexplained environmentally friendly claim.
If a particular product matters to you, raise that at the estimate stage. Do not assume every provider stocks it or can use it on every material.
Know what the EPA Safer Choice label tells you
EPA's Safer Choice program reviews product ingredients against its human health and environmental criteria. Labeled products must also meet program requirements such as performance and limits on volatile organic compounds, or VOCs. You can check EPA's product directory for the exact product rather than assuming an entire brand qualifies.
The label helps you compare products. It does not mean a product is suitable for every surface or that a cleaning visit carries a health guarantee.
Be specific about fragrance and household preferences
Safer Choice does not automatically mean fragrance-free. EPA offers an additional Fragrance-Free label for qualifying products. If fragrance is a concern, ask about the actual formulation instead of relying on terms such as fresh, natural, or unscented.
Tell the cleaner about product preferences and any rooms or belongings that require particular care. Share any required product restrictions before booking so the provider can assess whether they can accommodate the request.
Consider the cleaning process as well
A useful conversation can cover washable cloths, how tools are kept ready for the job, reasonable product use, and care for your flooring and finishes. Ask what can be adapted to your household rather than treating one label as a complete cleaning plan. A product that conflicts with a surface manufacturer's instructions is not a good fit simply because it has appealing marketing.
Questions to include in your estimate request
For a Dust Bunnies Cleaning estimate, tell Destiny which product preferences matter to your household. She can discuss the arrangements for your property and confirm what can be accommodated before you book.
- Which products do you propose using, and where?
- Can you accommodate my fragrance or product preferences?
- Does the exact product carry a verifiable label?
- Are any of my surfaces unsuitable for the proposed products?
